Above: Halo created by the sun around the shadow of an Airbus-340
'The greatest gift you can give someone is your time.
Because when you give someone your time,
You give them a portion of your life,
A portion that you will never get back.'
They say you should never live in the past. Because if you do, the past will always follow you like a shadow.
But what happens when the shadow has a halo around it, shades of glory, beauty and love. Those special memories you would die to preserve, hold on like it might just slip away, remember and re-remember, worried that you might forget it somehow. Ones you still remember those very fine details, those moments. Those moments, pieced together, sum up our entire life.
Those are the moments that make life worth living..and dying for. And if you cannot remember your past, then you have not really lived your life.

From where did you take the photograph? Ground or from another aircraft?
And if you cannot remember your past, then you have not really lived your life. I couldn't agree more.
My memories are my most precious possessions.
Wonderful post MC.
BTW, how is your hand/finger?
@ alexis - neither from land or another aircraft..its from the plane i was on and the shadow is of the same plane on the clouds below.
you are one lucky guy then, to have so many precious memories. great bro!
hand is better..one finger not regained sensation yet..but a lot better.thanks for checking al..sweet of you.
very interesting picture ,, wht only a true photographer has the finesse to do ..capture rare moments..and expand the horizon of our thinkin ,.,our imagination .. and equally nice thoughts to go with that too... yes our past moulds us into what we are today .. those moments make us grow ..the first time u do anething ..is the first time u experience it and the associated joys and sorrows...u experience life ..to be able to enjoy their beauty all the time whenever u want ..without gettin captured and frozen in their spell ..with a rare abandoment and detachment is wht makes life worth living !
P.S - my jurno sis is a huge fan of ur writing style and she has also started blogging ( called me up to create one for her ) ..considering she isnt easily pleased ( she certainly thinks my gramatical construction is all wrong etc ect )I am a bit jealous .. ( wink)
well ur last few posts have been just awesome. i think u have had a great past...or how else wud i still remember u saw vividly after all these years...in school u have been a hero to so many loyolites like me!!! hope your hand gets fine soon!!!
i also think its impossible and a stupid idea to distance onself completely from ur past and memories...yet i keep trying to turn a new leaf by negating old memories and friends and experiences and it doesnt really bring any joy!!!
Such a cool picture!
I luv U'r posts. They always seem 2 make me reflect!
;]
This has to be one of the most rocking posts that I have come across.
Man!the picture is DA BEST!!
And the words just sail smoothly through the storm of it all.
A beautiful yet expressive and mind blowing set of thoughts you have inside that head of yours.
Looks are deceptive....hehehhe(just kidding yaar;))
But seriously, there are so many people around me, telling me,let go of your past...let go of your past. All those wonderful and not so wonderful memories, the times we learnt to be what we are made to be.
It's easier said than done and who knows about it more than us ourselves.
We can't just let something so profound slip away to oblivion where it does not belong and never will.
But how can I tell them what the past has done for me,if only they knew what our past holds and how it shapes our tomorrows....
Lovely snap!
But i think there is a difference between holding on to your past and collecting beautiful memories...in fact i write down moments i want to keep visiting....but its imp. to let go of a painful past even as you retain sweet memories, which form its flip side. the only reason to look back at the past is to assess how it has positively contributed to your present...i feel...in fact i called my blog paradoxes!
I absolutely agree with u. Sometimes the past is what makes life worth living and sometimes I feel that is what gives you the strength to carry on. Some memories I treasure and guard and those are the moments that were/are precious to me now and forever.
Beautiful post with fab picture. :) Once again, MC you did it. But then I guess you must know by now. :) Keep writin'
Hi,
I think there is a difference between holding on to your past and holding on to sweet memories...i feel the only way to look back at a painful past is to see how it has constructivley contributed to your present...even as you retain the beautiful memories! that's the paradox!
@ shruti - well about the photograph i was just lucky to see it :)
you are absolutely right..its our past that makes us..and i have learned, over the years, that there is some good even in the things that we consider bad or try to forget.
yes, i am glad your sis has started blogging :)
@ jiby - thanks brother..i feel honored when you speak so high of me..i think i dont deserve so much :) but yes, those were great years.
opening a new leaf is important, but cherishing the past is as important i guess. because thats who we are.
@ starbender - always a pleasure to see you here..i just love your pics :)
@ maya - wow..what a beautiful comment..you spoke my mind and converted what i wanted to say in simple terms.
we dont really have to let go of our past. we can just cherish the good sides of it, even the things we think were horrible. because in the end, we would have been a better person or learnt more from it.
@ richa - welcome richa..waiting for that post of yours.
letting go of your past is a misnomer..the more you try to forget something, you are simply nailing it deeper in your thoughts. so when you say "let go" it just means we have to find something positive out of the incident and learn from that.
i always believe that it is the past that shapes you. and that includes both the positives and negatives.
i also believe that even the great people will have some bad past. it is those that make them wiser and bolder and stronger. not just the great achievements.
@ quills - thanks for the sweet comment quills :) i coudnt agree with your first para more. about the second.. :)
@ richa - now you know what i think about the past :)
really great pic ...
yes good and bad are neways relative and depend on how we percieve something / situation . If we treat everything as a learning experience then we are always gaining something . As long we can imbibe the good and weed out the bad from a situation and evolve .
The true phisolophy of Zen, All summed up in a blog post! Briliant!
@ archana - thanks arch :) whats happening in the nano world?
@ shruti - yes, right..we slowly begin to stop seeing the bad..even in real time, its important we try and stay away from the negatives.
@ anjaan - whoa man..:) philosophy of Zen..really? you should tell me more about it. and congrats on the new job :)heres a hi5!
I too sometimes wonder if our mind has an inbuilt system to forget the unpleasant moments, I for the life of me can't recollect the fights i have had with friends or any other bitter thing, when I think of my school/college days all i remember is happy happy times.
Am here through silverine, she mentioned one of your college time joke in on of my comments.
Wish i could take fundoo pictures like you :)
BTW what was the problem with your hand?
They say you should never live in the past. Because if you do, the past will always follow you like a shadow
Amazing the way you have ripped apart an old notion to reveal a new and contradictory facet. And few could have expressed it the way you have done. This post gives a hope...that there is a silver lining behind every cloudy saying.
This has to be the most beautiful piece of writing I have read in a long time.
@ kusum - nice to see you here.
i must say you are a lucky gal to remember only the good moments from the past, and that i would say is the best we can ask for. you are right, our mind is a really amazing and powerful thing.
i am sure you can take better pictures :)
my hand..now thats another story, another post..from the past. :)
@ silverine - yes there is silverine behind every good post and comment :)
thank you so much for your very very sweet comment. you know, i almost deleted this post after writing, thinking that nobody would anyway relate to this in any way.
but am glad to find out most people i know in blogosphere are as crazy as me ;)
just kidding..
nice post to look at what past is!.. there was this another statement that.. to move to the future you need to forget the past!.. i belive the past as to be kept as a reference, where you have made mistake that you do not again! and happy moments to remember bring a millimeter smile onto solen face :!!?
Beautiful post! In order to cope with childhood horrors, I have blocked out huge chunks of my past, and spent many hours in therapy trying to get it back. Now I just cherrish the good that I do remember, and let go of the bad that would serve no valuable purpose anyway.
but am glad to find out most people i know in blogosphere are as crazy as me
Welcome to the loony club. I am a life-time member. Ze great Druid Alexis Leon is our chief Potion Maker. Would you like to take over as President :))
@ sujit - absolutely..but dont make it "a millimeter" smile..make it wide..extra wide :)
@ patty - exactly..the moment we stop seeing the past as bad we win. what we consider bad is just a perception. if we manage to see the good in it, or how we became better because of that event, we will be able to "let go" of it. i am sure its not easy when one has really traumatic incidents. but trying to forget the past is impossible in its true sense.
@ silverine - :)great!! when do i get my ID card?
president..hmm..do i get any perks? can i sing? or is it only for the druid? :)
oh do U sing also?/ gr8 multitalented personality ..I failed in signing in class 8 ( thou I cried for the entire day wid frds consoling me for failing for the first time in my life I tend to now look back and realise that I might have just rubbed off the teacher the wrong way (good learningfrom a bad and sad experience - he he) he was known not to fail girls !!)So when do we get a sample of the singing ..??//
I was always told that I live in the past..but when you have had the best days of your life.. why shouldn't you remember those days!!
that was one helluva great snap..!!
nice way of looking at life..unfortunately most people rearely look back......
Awesome pic and even more awesome post to go with it. What you said about the past is so true. As somebody said.... "Events are as much the parents of the future as they were the children of the past."
@ shruti - lol..no i dont usually sing..but if i become president of the loony club i surely will..and my songs will beat not only the druid but also cacofonix the bard :)
@ IiC - absolutely right. isnt that what makes life worthwhile..who wants to live a life at the end of which there is nothing to look back on and smile?
@ mathew - thanks mathew..we are constantly reminded to "live the moment". its good. and if you really do you will have a very memorable past anyway.
@ suji - thank you so much.
"Events are as much the parents of the future as they were the children of the past."
amazingg..
I love all asterix characters .they are awesome
really u can give competition to cacoponix competition ... now I am all the more eager to hear u sing .. wht fun!!!

Memories.. the treasure that’s painstakingly collected over a life time.. The one thing that makes life’s journey worthwhile..
Memories are like notes.. musical notes that entwine with each other to create the beautiful melody called 'life'..
:)
..Me
How can you NOT cling on to memories? I dunno if I am obsessed or something, but I keep pics and memos and assorted stuff from my past always around me.... Keep going over the pics over and over again almost everydau and the like. Not that I am in the dumps now and reminiscing of a long gone golden age, but somehow it always soothes me, gives me a sense of perspective, what I was and where I come from....
:)
but evn tho Time can be the greatest gift to someone else from u, it's no point if it aint used well :)
Hows u?
Keshi.
